Jaclyn Newman is an accomplished commercial litigator and trial lawyer with a record of success in high‑stakes disputes, including securing eight‑figure jury verdicts and arbitration awards. She has served as a lead trial attorney in numerous complex arbitrations, bench trials, and jury trials throughout her career.

A New York-based litigation and trial attorney, Jaclyn represents public and private companies, as well as professionals and other individuals, on every stage from pre-dispute counseling through trial and appeal.

Jaclyn’s caseload spans the full range of commercial conflict, guiding both plaintiffs and defendants through breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, unjust enrichment, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement and trademark infringement claims.

Her practice spans a broad set of industries, including financial services, technology, higher education, consumer goods, and private investment. She represents companies ranging from M&A, capital‑raising platforms, and debt purchasers to universities and national CPG brands, as well as global IT consultancies, hedge funds, private banking institutions, and investment professionals involved in complex compensation and acquisition‑related disputes.

Jaclyn also maintains an active pro bono practice, having secured clemency for a domestic abuse survivor who served a decade in prison, and successfully bringing an action to require the disclosure of law enforcement disciplinary records on behalf of the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Before joining Harris St. Laurent, she was a litigation and trial associate at Latham & Watkins LLP.

Jaclyn serves on the Board of Directors for the Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration, an independent, non-profit organization devoted to restoring sight through eye donation and corneal transplantation.

Notable Matters

Her notable representations include the following:

  • Secured a $75.3 million Federal jury verdict on behalf of Post University in a high‑stakes copyright infringement and DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) action against Course Hero, serving as second chair and leading key witness examinations.
  • Secured an eight-figure award on behalf of a private investment firm in a contingent payment dispute with one of the world’s largest asset managers.
  • Represented a hedge fund in a five-week jury trial in the New York Supreme Court’s Commercial Division against breach of contract claims asserted by former employees. Ms. Newman examined key fact witness in the trial, which ended in a hung jury.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical company pursuing claims against a former employee, in a three-day bench trial in the Delaware Court of Chancery, for breach of a restrictive covenants agreement, breach of fiduciary duties, and misappropriation of trade secrets, resulting in a finding of liability in favor of the client.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 Global IT services leader in a post-merger dispute against an American multinational information technology company, achieving a US $666 million award after a two-week arbitration.
  • Won complete dismissal, on a motion to dismiss in the New York Supreme Court’s Commercial Division, for financial institution in a high-profile case filed a former customer seeking over $100 million for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and conversion.
