Jaclyn Newman Discusses Trending Legal Headlines on WGN’s Legal Face-Off Podcast
June 2, 2026
Harris St. Laurent LLP trial attorney Jaclyn Newman recently joined WGN Radio’s Legal Face-Off podcast to break down a range of high-profile legal disputes and other trending stories, including litigation with connections to Joe Biden, Charlie Kirk, Columbia University and Vince Guaraldi’s iconic Peanuts compositions.
During the program’s “Legal Grab Bag” segment, Newman joined hosts Rich Lenkov, Christina Martini and Ryan Burrow, along with Pat Milhizer of Milhizer Public Relations. One discussion focused on litigation involving the release of audio and transcripts connected to former President Joe Biden. Newman discussed why audio evidence can carry greater weight than written transcripts in legal proceedings.
“Audio is very compelling compared to a written transcript,” Newman said. “That’s why we have live witness testimony at trial. That’s why we don’t submit written transcripts to a jury, to assess credibility when someone stutters or looks around.”
The group also analyzed the trademark dispute between Columbia Sportswear and Columbia University. Newman noted the case presents strong arguments on both sides because both entities have long-established brands and overlapping interests in apparel.
“The apparel company is the one selling the apparel, so when you have the university now making apparel, you’re actually arguably infringing on the apparel company now,” Newman said.
The discussion also included litigation tied to a Florida state employee’s firing over a Charlie Kirk social media post, a copyright lawsuit alleging unauthorized use of music inspired by Vince Guaraldi’s iconic Peanuts compositions in a video game, Britney Spears’ DUI arrest, and a personal injury lawsuit involving a portable toilet incident.
Newman represents companies and individuals in high-stakes, complex commercial litigation disputes.
