Joseph DeBlasi handles a wide variety of complex commercial litigation, government and internal corporate investigations, white collar criminal prosecutions, and civil rights-related matters on behalf of the firm’s clients.
Practicing out of the firm’s New York office, Joe represents corporations and individuals in high-stakes commercial and securities fraud litigation, governmental and regulatory investigations and prosecutions arising from white collar criminal defenses, internal corporate probes, and civil rights/wrongful conviction matters. He is a key member of teams that have investigated corporate and executive misconduct, pursued exoneration for those wrongfully accused, and successfully protected corporate clients’ reputations.
Prior to joining the firm, Joe handled regulatory, contractual, and compliance matters at a fintech startup where he worked alongside the general counsel. He also gained significant experience on civil asset forfeiture and government employment cases as an intern in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.
Notable Matters
- Advising clients in confidential government investigations involving the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act, and sanctions compliance.
- Successful representation of a defendant in a now-dismissed putative class action arising out of the fall of Signature Bank, which alleged billions of dollars of damages under the federal securities laws.
- Representation of a manufacturer and distributor of take-out products in the foodservice industry in a commercial dispute involving its corporate landlord and insurance carrier.
- Provided guidance to expert witness in the extradition proceeding of a foreign national facing extradition to the United States for cyber-crimes.
- Conducted an independent internal investigation into allegations of misconduct of senior executives of a leading payment fintech.
- Currently representing a man wrongfully convicted of homicide and imprisoned for 25 years in his 1983 action against state government officials.
